The New Era of Prevention in Dentistry

As dentistry enters a new era driven by precision prevention, Dr. Margherita Fontana challenges us to rethink traditional disease management and embrace evidence-based, patient-centered approaches that harness technology, biology, and behavioral science. In this inspiring keynote, Dr. Fontana will explore how modern caries risk assessment, minimally invasive interventions, and integration of medical-dental data are transforming preventive care from reactive to predictive.

This session will provide insight into the latest research shaping caries management and oral disease prevention—and leave empowered to lead change in clinical practice, public health, and policy to build a future where prevention truly comes first.

The Prevention Ecosystem

Practical Implementation of Tools, Products, & Tech

Step into a dynamic, fast-paced showcase where leading product innovators share cutting-edge solutions that redefine what’s possible in preventive dental care. This interactive, hands-on session brings together short, high-impact presentations from top companies whose technologies are transforming how we prevent, detect, and manage oral disease.

Participants will discover new tools and strategies to elevate their preventive practice—from the chairside to population-level care. Featured topics include:

  • AI for Patient Communication & Scheduling – Streamlining engagement and improving access.

  • Salivary Diagnostics – Unlocking insights from genome-based cancer screening to caries- and perio-related biomarkers and flow-rate testing.

  • Teledentistry Platforms – Expanding prevention reach beyond the operatory.

  • Airway Assessment & Early Intervention – Linking breathing health with preventive care.

  • Caries Biomarker Detection – Enabling early, non-invasive action.

  • Periodontal Innovation – Guided biofilm therapy, desiccation approaches, and novel medicaments.

  • Remineralization Science – Advances in silver fluoride, self-assembling peptides, and more.

  • Minimally Invasive Restorations – From chemo-mechanical caries removal to glass ionomers.

  • Patient Behavior Change & Motivation – Harnessing motivational interviewing, habit physiology, and digital engagement.

  • Care Integration – Building seamless medical-dental collaboration.

  • Boosting Patient Compliance – Leveraging digital referrals and tools for treatment acceptance and adherence.

Attendees will leave inspired and equipped with a forward-looking view of how emerging innovations can build a more connected prevention ecosystem—one that enhances clinical outcomes, improves efficiency, and strengthens patient trust.

CAMBRA Update

1:30pm ET - 2:00pm ET

Brian Novy, DDS

Is CAMBRA a Noun or a Verb?

More than 20 years ago, when the end of caries seemed to be on the horizon, CAMBRA was just a glimmer in a few eyes of cariologists. Therapies were limited to fluoride foam, some new varnish, and antibacterial mouthwash that only the tasteless would use, but clinicians pressed on. Today the National CAMBRA Coalition stands as THE liaison between the science pillars of academic cariology and real-world clinical practice.  Managing the disease of dental caries requires tooth based efforts, working in mouths, attached to people, within the population. What began as a short risk assessment form has become the buzz-word for managing the most prevalent preventable disease on earth, but where are the instructions for how to do CAMBRA to someone?
